Less A Comic Strip, More A Hideous Facsimile Of One.

It's the Day's Day of Days! Because Julian Glover.

...

How can he have been doing this for so long and only have gotten worse at it? How?

  1. One can only gawk in morbid wonderment. It really is quite an achievement.

    1. I know. When Muir started he was bad as an artist, but a normal kind of bad. In the years since, he's declined in every facet as an artist, with any illusion of advancement being 'learned how to use another computer program as a crutch' on closer examination. A man whose skills were close to the bottom of the curve has somehow fallen further after nearly twenty years of practice.

    2. Part of the problem may be that he relies so heavily on re-used poses. While this has enabled him to post almost literally every day for 19 years, it also means he cheated himself out of valuable "on the job" learning experience.

That doesn't explain his terrible staging, though, which is worse than the drawings. Staging isn't my greatest strength either, but at least you always always know who's talking to who.

    3. I think you're dead on--Muir has been reusing poses heavily since the start of the strip, and it has been one of many things that has helped him avoid practice. Toss in the drawing tools that have let him mimic progression without actually progressing and the fawning fans who applaud everything and we can see how Muir has managed to avoid improving and instead has steadily gotten worse as an artist.
