When you're mocking or satirizing people, you have to build your version of them around a trait they actually HAVE, or it's just random blather that doesn't make any kind of sense.
ReplyDeleteHillary Clinton is in no way associated with alcoholism. It's not a thing. Muir using it to mock her doesn't resonate with anything real. He might as well show her as a bad driver or being hard of hearing.
It reminds me of when Sarah Palin mocked Rachel Maddow for "sometimes getting red in the face" with anger. Maddow has never done such a thing--Palin just totally made it up out of thin air. So it doesn't even work as mockery, unless the intent is to mock oneself as a puerile ignoramus.
Very true--unfortunately, this strip exists in such an airtight echo chamber that Muir can make fun of any "lib" for any random reason, and the audience will love it. It doesn't have to resonate with reality for them....
