It's the Day's Day of Days! Because toaster heat level settings.
Huh.
It's interesting. When describing Muir's political changes through the years, I tend to feel it is less a transformation and more a revelation. The basic core has mostly remained the same, but the surrounding levels of bullshit and doublethink have been gradually stripped away. The Muir of a few years ago would have written something similar to this, but more mealy-mouthed. The Muir of a decade ago might have thought things like this, but he wouldn't have put them directly to page. And the Muir of two decades ago might have felt things like this, but had a very careful set of denials in his head that he could trot out and say he wasn't a racist.
All gone now. The essential bigot no longer feels the need to hide.
Interesting to see the peanut gallery's reaction to this. For a few of them, Muir has crossed the line. Some of the more devoted followers are twisting themselves into pretzels to explain that he wasn't really saying what he was saying.
ReplyDeleteAnd a few who simply applauded.
DeleteBut yes, a considerable portion of the Peanut Gallery remain at the point where for all they will applaud fascist and racist talking points, this is a bit too explicit, the point where they recognize it as getting a bit too Nazi-ish for their continued declaration of obviously not being Nazis to wash.
And also....when have Jews ever attacked Christians? Sure, Muslims have attacked Christians, and vice-versa. Plenty of that in both directions. And of course Jews and Muslims have been at each other's throats in different capacities for ages, up to this current catastrophic moment. But Jews attacking Christians?? Where? When? When did this ever happen?
ReplyDeleteAnd why am I even bothering to try making sense of this?
