It's the Day's Day of Days! Because Murder!
Wasn't quite where I was expecting Muir to go with this, but in the end, this has always been a staple of the strip, Muir insisting he doesn't object to liberals/Blacks/Hispanics/etc. so long as they're the right sort of... you know the drill. And that right sort is essentially a version of Muir who is one of the aforementioned.
Because Muir can't handle people calling him an immature, hateful bigot, and so does things like this, which wind up underlining the whole matter.
Yeah, my first reaction to this was--ah, Muir has created a trans Damon. "It's okay if you're biased against me--free country!" We know that the best case scenario for Tyler is that he gets polite treatment. It's obvious he would never be allowed to pair up with one of the DBD ranch women (just like Javier will likely never be allowed to pair up with one of the white female characters)
ReplyDeleteMy second reaction is a suspicion that there might be more to this. Muir has said in the Peanut Gallery comments that he agrees there are only two genders, but Sam is a woman and "they go along to get along" I wouldn't be surprised if we see some kind of plot twist which still manages to make Tyler a villain, unfortunately.
I think the idea here is that Muir is saying that he's willing to tolerate these people--while still viewing them as fundamentally misguided--if they're one of the "good ones", as opposed to the evil corrupt "groomers".
DeleteSo, in essence, you get pretend tolerance while being forced to stay on guard for the sins of imaginary members of your group.
