Once again, it's hard not to get the impression Muir's idea vanished up its own ass.

A day by day look at Chris Muir's Day By Day, punctuated by efforts to make the hurting stop.
Seriously, how many Sams actually exist in the world? There are plenty of women yahoos who brainlessly cheerlead "MAGA!" and "Lock her up!" next to their man, but how many smart, accomplished, articulate female misogynists are out there who would be satisfied with a life partner like Zed?
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, Zed in the strip isn't such a bad catch if you leave out his attitudes--a tough accomplished military man whose fairly well-to-do. That's because Zed and Sam are essentially Muir's idealized version of himself and a female idealized version of himself, as I've noted before.
DeleteHis attitudes are exactly the issue. I really wonder how many Sams are out there who would be happy to drily nod along with their "catch" of a husband who routinely denigrated the worth and psychological stability of women as a whole, voicing the occasional halfhearted protest while usually contributing frequent well-timed zingers of her own.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's the general thing--both Zed and Sam are unbelievable figures at the bottom of it.
