The disquieting extent to which pregnancy has wound up a dominating plots over the last few years just underlines that Muir thinks shit like this celebrates women, instead of objectifying them.

  1. Given how powerful this fixation is, it's kind of remarkable he held off on writing it into the comic for as many years as he did. "Jan in marketing" and "Sam in engineering" gave no indication that they'd become fertility fetish fuel.

      But I've noted this before--you can chart the development of Muir's fixations. The initial pregnancies were plot-driven. But Muir, fond of ogling as he was, started enjoying the breast-feeding drawings and... well other creepiness snuck in as a result of that.
