I'm half expecting another one of Muir's "Ha! Made you think I was a Nazi" bits in the near future, where he thinks he's being clever instead of trying to have it both ways. But whether it happens or not, the fact remains that the Nazi apologia I've been seeing as inevitable given the twist of his politics has happened, and it's just as awful and just as brain-dead as I thought it would be.
I mean, he's still tossing out the "Hitler was a socialist" canard, people.
People like me are in a miserable position because Israel — the state claiming to represent and act on behalf of all of us — is run by murderous bloodthirsty psychopaths who seem absolutely hellbent on validating quite literally every antisemitic trope of the past several centuries.
ReplyDeleteAnd make no mistake — some of them know that’s exactly what they’re doing; the entire goal is to drive up anti-Jewish hatred globally so that we’ll flee to our “safe” homeland, providing more cannon fodder for their now explicitly expansionist aims.
These people are evil beyond description, and I viscerally hate them even more than Trump and his circle.
Yet here we are, our scathing words of condemnation overlapping with those of ACTUAL antisemites ( as opposed to, say, Mark Ruffalo), objecting to the same grotesquely corrupt relationship with the U.S. government, media and institutions, with bad-faith actors everywhere vomiting “anti-Semite!!!” in every direction.
Good fucking luck to any clueless outsiders trying to make sense of any of this, or figure out what “side” they should be on.

I don’t know which is worse about that line — the sneering genocidal cravings underlying it, or its skull-crushing stupidness as remotely believable dialogue.

To the first part--it's much like Muir's giving up his previous neocon beliefs--what he's replaced them with is somehow worse. In this case, the shallow philosemitism that created Naomi burned off and revealing that the hint of antisemitism was always the true essence of the man.
