This is the strip where Muir turned Jan from a stupid white straw liberal to a stupid Hispanic straw liberal. This is pretty much a variant on--well, Damon's entire schtick--but also a big mistake. The entire 'joke' of Jan and Damon's relationship was that she was the stupid white girl who kept insisting that she knew how a minority member was supposed to act. But now--now she becomes a minority member herself, destroying the entire irony. Instead of a clueless member of the majority trying to patronizingly dictate how a member of the minorities act based on a platonic ideal, she is a fellow minority member, who has a practical knowledge of how they 'should' act and is now arguably puzzled at Damon's acting clearly against his own self-interest. She's gone from an ignorant fool to a person with a comparable experience.

But then again, this is Muir we're talking about. Thinking things through is not a strong point.
