It's the Day's Day of Days! Because Kikaider 01.
Muir's been producing these stock Black Women Government Employees, and putting these nonsensical declarations in their mouths for years now, and the reason is pathetically obvious. If he doesn't, he might have to realize that he's the anxious little coward with issues on race and women. So, no, no, everything is bad because white guys aren't doing it. Because it can't be him. Nope.
Indeed. He's got Stock Black Woman Government Employee, and Stock African Migrant Thugs that pop up whenever characters visit Europe.
ReplyDeleteI have to say this. It's been the disgusting conspiracy theories about FEMA, and the right's grotesque and damaging lies about the Helene recovery efforts, that have finally pushed me almost completely across a red line. I've been torn for a few years, not at all eager to make the leap, but this has been the final straw that's pushed me to decide --- 99.99% --- that the United States needs to break up.
Do not ask me how that would happen, or what it would even mean, or how it would be negotiated, or what the logistics would be. God help me, I do not know.
All I do know is, this situation is not sustainable. These fanatics are doing everything they possibly can to make this country ungovernable. They are destroying the public trust in every institution they can, ripping us apart from each other in ever more and ever worse ways. Half the country lives in not merely a fantasy world, but a deeply paranoid, hysterical and hateful one, the effects of which are increasingly crippling for everyone. From the duplicitous ranking GOP Senator to the neighbor across the street who has become a delusional paranoiac, they are all making it more and more difficult to maintain a democracy, or even a modern society.
We're constantly on a knife's edge, a razor thin line separating us from collapsing into fascism. And all with the threat of violence hanging over everything.
You can't have a functioning democratic republic like this. You can't. It's not going to work. It's too unstable. Something is going to blow. I don't know what, I don't where, I don't know when. But it can't go on like this indefinitely. How can it?
And it's not like things are going to get better. I can't see how they could. There don't seem to be any mechanisms for making it better, but there are countless mechanisms for making it worse. And it will get worse.
I'm worried. And I don't see any way left to make this work. Harris winning would only put this off for another four years, and even then, god only knows what will be happening while she tries steer this thing into calm waters while facing a tsunami of sabotage every step of the way.
How long can this last? I don't know, and I've come to believe the best-case scenario would be for the US to amicably divorce now before this pressure cooker explodes. I take no pleasure in arriving here. I've reached this belief with great reluctance. But this FEMA insanity --- my god. They are willing to sabotage anything. ANYTHING.
This can't last.
Can I be blunt?
DeleteThis is a terrible idea, that cannot happen without making things infinitely worse than the problems you imagine. Frankly, reading this has me imploring you to perhaps take some time to touch grass.
With that said, I'd argue our nation's problems are more subtle than they can appear. We do not have a nation of nearly 50% delusional fascists. We have a nation where nearly 50% have convinced themselves that the delusional fascists aren't so bad as all that, really, and hey, at least they'll keep those nasty leftists out. Which to be fair, makes them in a sense delusional fascists, but not in the 'talking about birth rates and measuring head sizes' sense.
Which is where I'm going to differ with you. Winning this can absolutely keep them from winning. If they're kept on the outside looking in and performing hideous acts of terrorism, well, that will catch up to them in the end. It won't pretty or neat, but nothing will, and it will certainly be prettier and neater than them winning, or the country breaking up.
Those are the fail conditions, and to be blunt, the second one you mention is the worst case option.
John, I really hope you're right. I'm not at a place yet where I would like to see the United States split up--I think that would be an incredibly messy and painful process. However, I too have reached the place where, although I'm going to do everything I can to help the Harris Walz ticket win, I think things are going to get very ugly even if they do. There's definitely a sense of hopelessness about this situation for me, so I do appreciate your more positive outlook on things.
DeleteAll I can say is that I hope you are right. I'm just not able to see it anymore. Like I said, I've only come to this place recently, and the FEMA madness was what nudged me over the line. Because what it says to me is that there will never be any limit to their depravity in the service of pure sabotage, which is inherently destabilizing.
ReplyDeleteI've thought a lot about how the US could possibly break up, and of course it seems logistically impossible no matter which way you try to slice it. Not to mention the political vacuum the US's essential disappearance would leave internationally, creating a tsunami of disasters on its own. (And lord jesus, how would the freaking nukes be split up?)
So I don't say any of this stuff lightly. I'm just feeling utterly despondent right now, and I really hope you're right that long-term, these people will choke to death on their own bile before destroying the rest of us.
