    The guy who runs the (sadly dormant) Rung by Rung Tumblr pointed out that it was fairly early in the comics' run that Muir started to visibly rely on what were then being called "citizen journalists" to shape his perspectives.
    That's only gotten exponentially more true over the past 15 years, to the point where he exists in a parallel dimension within several other parallel dimensions, Russian doll-style.

    Glass houses and all that---I've read Digby's Hullabaloo every single day since 2005, but she is not even remotely in the same category as these kooks.

      It's pretty clear that Muir doesn't read anything that isn't "citizen journalism", at least, not without reading some "citizen journalism" to explain it away first. And that's the real issue--the lack of anything to fight off the crazy.
