I'm really wondering which group Muir sees as the Confederacy here, especially considering his rather confused views on the Civil War.

    It's very simple. The modern-day counterparts to the Confederates are the ones striking back against a tyrannical federal government, which is run by the Democrats, who are the descendants of the original Confederates.

    See? Simple.
