Ignorance, arrogance, bigotry, and projection. The foundations of Muir's entire worldview. Here we see the old moth-eaten "The US is just like decadent Rome before its fall!" favored by people who don't know history, but like to imagine they do. We see Muir's deep-rooted belief that as a white man he has a magical virtue that must be respected. We see him ranting about immigrants, minorities and women, as usual. And of course, we see him explaining that the Democrats totally made Obama into an idol, which is not only untrue, but it ignores his own fawning treatment of Trump.
Because Muir's rubbed the 'crypto' right off the fascist by this point, and like all his ilk, he imagines his own impoverished understanding of human relations is the base norm, and if people are pretending to do something differently, they're lying. Oh, and also when they do it it's bad, because they're inferior, and not a natural ruler like him.
