Fash Gonna Fash.

It's the Day's Day of Days! Because Aberlour.

This strip raises two interesting points. The first is that it's clear that the only objection the cast (and by extension Muir) has with Putin is he's Russian, the traditional enemy--otherwise, they consider his authoritarian dictatorship laudable. The second is that ongoing question of what exactly does Muir think is going on in Ukraine? He clearly believes something is going on, but what? Does he somehow imagine that all the massive reversals Putin's suffered are fake? I can believe that--Muir's view of reality is distinctly Gnostic these days, where the man boasts constantly that he is not fooled by these lying facts--but even so, he must believe something is happening in Ukraine. Is it a 'actually Putin is winning', or 'actually, Putin shall soon unleash his full strength', or does Muir keep it in a quantum state where his idea of the Russo-Ukrainian War is pure vibes?

I suppose we'll see.

  1. Yeah, I was wondering about that when I saw the "First, let's deal with Ukraine" comment from Putin. Considering how things are going for the Russians, it could be an awfully long time before Gunpowder gets that embassy....

    1. It seems pretty clear Muir thinks Putin is winning. Somehow, whether Ukrainian victories are fictitious, or that Putin has some master plan that we blinkered fools are too blind to see.

  2. Annnnnnd there it is.

Took him a little while, but Muir's finally fully crossed over into the Putin-worshipping right. He's been flirting with it, but this is pretty much him jumping straight into the pool.
    Huzzah.
(Ronald Reagan was responsible for incalculable damage done to this country, but if he could have lived to see that elements of the American right would come to embrace Russian authoritarianism...
I mean, in his day it would have been beyond inconceivable.)

And you raise an excellent point. What DOES Muir think is happening in Ukraine, exactly? Whatever he believes it is, obviously he approves of it. Which at this point isn't remotely surprising, as he forever sealed his status as a horrific human being with his open approval of the Christchurch mosque killings.

    1. Muir seems a bit weirded out by his status himself, which makes sense--he's been used to hating and fearing the Russians instinctively for a long time. But it's clear that he has no real intellectual objections to Putin's regime.
