It has been... a thing to watch Muir's gradual transformation into an alternative medicine boosting paranoid anti-vaxxer. The strangest part is even though it doesn't resemble his initial set of delusions, it makes total sense for him to have adopted such a set of beliefs. It doesn't lead to the bafflement that his turn towards isolationism and intermittent Putin-boosting has.
Probably why you don't see him fidgeting awkwardly on the topic, as we see with the latter.
I don't know what is worse...Muir's terrible strip, or a peanut gallery conversation full of people bragging about refusing legitimate medical care--even going so far as refusing colonoscopies--because they are convinced the doctors and hospitals are part of a conspiracy to kill their patients. I suppose if I was really cynical, I could say that just leaves more health care resources for the rest of us, but it just makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteUnderneath the gallows humor of such comments lurks the reality, which is that this brand of paranoia inevitably costs society, both in trust, and in the care that these idiots will require when their bad decisions break them down.
