Heh. I knew it. Muir clearly wanted this guy to be Mari's new boyfriend... but the entire situation as written was having him interact, and showing surprisingly decent chemistry with Kiko.
So Muir did the obvious thing--scrap the entire plotline and then force things to go onto the expected path.
