Have you ever read Philip Pullman's "The Golden Compass"? I'm reminded of a real burn in that novel that has always stuck with me:

To be fair to Muir, the Compound absolutely would be getting people's notice because they're a bunch of redneck supervillains. But that's the thing--Muir's handling of the bizarre situation he's created is so incompetent the seams show.
