There's a certain level of bafflement in Muir's writing here that's obvious. He didn't plan for this. For all that he loves to wallow in his persecution complex, he also expects nothing bad to ever happen to his side, and when something bad does happen, it's supposed to be in a way that demonstrates how badass his guys are.
Not getting shot through the neck while making a racist wisecrack about mass shootings.
