Remember what I was just saying about Muir's whole robot thing just being so completely bizarre?
Yeah, that was prophetic.
A day by day look at Chris Muir's Day By Day, punctuated by efforts to make the hurting stop.

True, but now I kinda want to see an alternate storyline universe in which Jeff and Jo really do nuke the DBD Ranch out of existence. It'll be like Threads, but in Texas and with crazy robots!
ReplyDeleteFrom one bomb? It wouldn't be 'Threads' it would be a 1950s monster movie.
DeleteGood point. I guess I'm desperate for something to blow up and create an interesting plot for this comic.
DeleteWell, yes, since moving to the Compound, the rule is nothing ever really happens. There is the illusion of things happening, but nothing ever actually happening. The two "character" deaths we've seen have both been about illusory tragedy and cementing Zed's status as 'daddy', yes, both of them. The rest of it is sound and fury, as Muir tries to emphasize how neat his cast is.
DeleteExactly--you've summed it up perfectly with "the illusion of things happening, but nothing ever actually happening." Muir will on a regular basis build up the anticipation of some amazing plot twist to come, only to have it fizzle out and turn into more political hectoring from his various mouthpieces. Meh.
ReplyDeleteI mean, that wouldn't be so bad if what we got here was a simple slice of life strip with politics happening in the background. But Muir has to make his cast redneck supervillains taking on the derp state, so things just get surreal.
DeleteRedneck supervillains who twenty years ago were mild-mannered urban professionals — a category of person Muir now seems to regard as vermin.
DeleteThe bizarre trajectory of the characters’ lives parallels that of their creator, as it does for the entire American right.
To be fair, neither Damon nor Sam were ever mild-mannered, even if Sam wasn't quite the shrill boor she'd become.
DeleteBut... yeah.
