    Seriously, it's twisted enough that the right has tried to claim Martin Luther King, but...Orwell? I get it, the man is eminently quotable to the point of being overused and abused, but how does anyone on the right not understand that Orwell would have viewed everything they stand for with bitter disdain? It says something about their absolutist mindset that because he excoriated Soviet communism, he must be pro-capitalist and pro-whatever they're pretending to favor.

    Speaking of absolutist thinking, that's also why some people are able to view that kid's rant and not see what's wrong with it. Not everything is straightforwardly about historical accuracy----context matters.
    Hell, even "You need to lose weight" can change connotation completely depending on who's saying it to whom.

      They see it as speaking truth to power.

      With that said, the kid's rant isn't even right. That shit is awful on every level and stuff that no one should say without consequences.
