You know, moments like this underline one of Damon's past purposes in this strip, allowing Muir to paint conservatism as the intelligent rational philosophy as opposed to crazy evil liberalism. He was never any good at it because Muir thought being intelligent and rational meant acting like a smug jackass, and over time it somehow morphed into his having a son who could produce magic technology to show how cool the protagonists are, but traces of it remain.
