This is a lazy strip, in so many ways.
Though it is always strangely fascinating when Muir's fanboying of Golden Age comics shows up. It's astonishing how little he seems to have picked up from his admiration of past masters of the craft.
And as you often point out, he's gotten worse, not better, over time.
ReplyDeleteIn fairness he's become much more graphically and dramatically ambitious than the office-humor days, which from an artist standpoint is always a commendable thing. But he did not remotely have the chops to pull it off and only succeeded in laying bare how pronounced his weaknesses really are.
(The composition ALONE is always a hot mess. It's often impossible to tell who's saying what to whom without rereading the whole thing several times.)
