Again, you just know that in some future strip, Muir will be explaining that Democrats are the real Nazis. For seeking the support of Black women.
A day by day look at Chris Muir's Day By Day, punctuated by efforts to make the hurting stop.

Hilariously, the Peanut Gallery has chosen this moment to wag their finger at Muir, berating him for making erratic statements with no evidence and without citing any sources.
ReplyDeleteWhere have they been all these years?
Ahh, but previously, he was just saying things they knew had to be true. Now he's suggesting crazy things about Israel, which they like.
DeleteMind you like it for reasons about as bad as the ones Muir has turned on it for, largely seeing it as a White crusader state holding back the dusky hordes. And they're quite capable of nodding along with pretty blatant antisemitism provided it's aimed at a Soros. But Muir has gone full isolationist now, with all that involves.
Beat me to it. This is one of the very few times I've seen Muir get a bit of pushback. And every time it happens, to people like us it indeed seems so arbitrary. Why THIS time?
DeleteIt sort of reminds me of when Sarah Palin gave that speech in something like 2014 and to people like us, it was just Palin being Palin, but suddenly, like flipping a switch, the entire right-wing ecosystem reacted like "Holy shit, she really DOES sound like a blathering idiot."
I don't get it.
The irony is that both right-wing Zionist sympathizers and some left-wing critics of Israel have the same misconception --- they see Israel as "white". The winguts view that in the light you describe; the lefties view it as endemic to a European settler-colonial project.
DeleteIn reality, over half of Israeli Jews are Sephardim and Mizrahim. It's true that the Ashkenazim (or "whites", for this purpose) have tended to dominate the political and economic elite, but still. Both ends of that spectrum have a misconception about who Israeli Jews are.
It's ironic for so many reasons, the most tragic of which being how closely related the Mizrahim and the Palestinians really are.
It's a massive simplification, yes. I'd argue that Israel's story is so heavily linked to European colonialism that it's something that has to be considered in talking about it, but it pulled in regional ethnic and religious differences and, well, so much else. There's a reason the damn thing's a mess.
DeleteEDIT:
ReplyDeleteSo. I read a bunch of the comments that hadn't yet been posted last time I looked, and surprisingly the pushback had only increased and intensified. But. Muir kept essentially replying "just wait".
So I just read the new Sunday strip, and.....
okay, I'm dizzy. Without stealing your future thunder, I'll just say this. You could take almost every word of this dialogue and put it into the mouths of sane people, and it would work.
Muir saying the things he is saying today is....well, "ironic" does not begin to cover it. It's like he was suddenly replaced by a pod person. You'll see.
Oh, I'm going to get to that one. It's fascinating, and I am going to analyze the hell out of it.
