Would Moscow Lie To Her?

It's the Day's Day of Days! Because Last Salute to the Commodore.

Watching Muir parrot the Kremlin's talking points, right down to the traditional Russian paranoia about the UK, sure is a thing.

  1. I fell for it and tried to Google the MI6 spy thing. Not finding anything and have no idea what they are talking about, as usual. The Peanut Gallery just responds by saying "Google is your friend" Well, no, not in this case.

    1. The "panel-one pronouncements", as I call them, rarely pan out. SOMETIMES you google them and it turns out that Muir says happened is actually what happened. But that's extremely rare. Most times, you either get results that show what real-life thing Muir's sources twisted and distorted into something unrecognizable, or you don't get anything at all.

Part of the reason, I think, is that for a few years it's seemed to me that Google either purposefully downplays or has trouble finding rando independent blogs the way it easily used to. I don't know whether that's yet another sinister manifestation of big tech and how the big social media companies have killed the independent nature of the internet, or if it's simply because there are far, far fewer such active blogs than there once were (well, okay -- that's also because of the social media monopolies).
So it's often hard to pinpoint just where the hell he gets this stuff from. Obviously he's getting it from somewhere, but it's harder to easily bring up these nutjob sources than it used to be, unless you're in the know.

    2. The Mamound Khalil claim is fascinating because here's the thing--he was a British agent at one point. They've admitted to it, he used to work for the FCDO in Beirut, "supporting diplomats" as they put it.

But there's no proof he's been doing it since he left Lebanon, and if he is/was, it's more likely that he joined up with the protests to keep an eye on them than some sort of sinister British plan to undermine us from within.

So in essence, classic panel one pronouncement. Even when there's truth in one, it's been so distorted and crazified, it's a funhouse mirror version of itself.

  2. I wonder how much of this stuff overlaps with the Britain conspiracy theories that Lyndon LaRouche was always going on about. I've never looked closely at them.

    1. There's probably a decent overlap. LaRouche picked some of it up from his Marxist fringe days, when he was one of the Communists other Communists found a bit much. This was of course followed by becoming the Far Right figure other Far Right figures found a bit much. So, he always remained true to himself, in a fashion.
