There's something extra-awful about Muir declaring the characters he wrote to embody his own freakout at the world are only freaking out because they're weak-willed creatures who need a distraction. Especially with the underlying sexism in how it's handled.
Long gone are the days when a joke could be had at Zed's expense. He now has to be basically be an infallible ubermensch.
ReplyDeleteBut then, it's difficult to consider modern Zed the same character as the laid-back, droll, weary office schlub of the first few years.
Every now and then he's allowed to be the butt. But only every now and then and in a manner that maintains his status as a Murican god among men.
