    Yeah, and the long and cheerful Peanut Gallery discussion about all the different ways they got beaten as kids doesn't improve things any.

    But yes: paternalism. The Donald Trump administration is not our parent...and is not the parent of the judges, either.

      Augh. Few things repulse me more than discussions like that. For god's sake, that one guy's parents BROKE several (several!) wooden spoons on him. Think how hard you have to be hitting for that.

      I cannot imagine striking a child like that. Any child. Especially my own if I had any. My niece is one and a half. and the thought of anyone hitting her is horrible. I will never be able to understand how people can do it.

      Yep, the assumption is that this was good for them. After all, look at them today, they're just fine! Not sitting around harboring grotesquely violent fantasies about everyone else....
