The Shiny Bald Head Of The Husband Is A Thing Of Nightmares.

It's the Day's Day of Days! Because Samson versus the Vampire Women.

Terrible art. A stale punchline that Muir has beaten to death. But you know what? It's not another horrifying car wash strip, so it's a relief there.

  1. Thank you for letting me know this was not a car wash one. This one is just confusing and unfunny, not actively disgusting.

  2. The art really is so amazingly bad. Muir's earliest DBDs were actually better products overall, as he was staying within his very limited range and wasn't trying to pull off things he had no understanding of. He did not get better with time at all, and while expanding one's visual ambition is always to be commended, his abilities were so outmatched by those ambitions that the resulting mess is just a trainwreck of grotesqueness. Even if he weren't spectacularly incompetent at staging (seriously, it's hard to believe how bad he is at it), his attempts to draw more detailed or subtle expressions often just crash straight into nightmare territory because he has no eye or judgement for what works and what doesn't----ESPECIALLY when copying from photos.
    "Howler monkey face", indeed.

    1. I'd add that another factor is receiving constant praise from the Peanut Gallery makes him unable to admit his work is, well, bad, causing him to essentially stagnate at an artist from what was a fairly poor starting point. The art shifted from 'bad, but usually serviceable' to 'dear God, what am I looking at' largely because Muir keeps trying for more difficult techniques while never solving the underlying flaws in his work.

One sees the same problems crop up with his writing though there you have the additional problems of Muir's politics growing crazier and crazier, and him trying to juggle numerous contradictory impulses in his worldbuilding.

    2. That is exactly right. Muir is surrounded by mostly yes-men and a couple of yes-women, and it shows. That is the death-knell of quality work.

    3. It's the yes-women in particular who just morbidly fascinate me the most.
